Johnstons of Elgin builds £1m visitor centre

Luxury Scottish knitwear and accessories manufacturer Johnston of Elgin is investing £1 million on a new visitor centre at its Hawick site in the Scottish Borders. The new development, which is due to open in May this year, will include a visitor centre with museum, coffee shop and retail space and is set to create new jobs whilst safeguarding existing jobs at the Eastfield Mills site.

Hyosung launches creora dyeable

Korean fibre producer Hyosung has launched a new creora brand elastane with outstanding dyeability in blends with nylon for hosiery, warp knits, circular knits and wovens. New creora dyeable is said to be engineered in a proprietary way to allow absorption of dyestuffs and the delivery of superior colourfastness compared to regular elastane.

Nike adopts waterless dyeing technology

Nike announced this morning that it has entered into a strategic partnership with DyeCoo Textile Systems B.V., a Netherlands-based company that has developed and built the first commercially available waterless textile dyeing machines. By using recycled carbon dioxide, DyeCoo's technology eliminates the use of water in the textile dyeing process. The name DyeCoo was inspired by the process of ‘dyeing’ with ‘CO2.’

Continued growth for Italian textile machinery sector

In spite of an increase in production for 2011 by Italian textile machinery manufacturers, forecasts remain cautious for the current year. Provisional figures for 2011 for Italy’s textile machinery sector show a further increase in manufacturing production and exports, following a good recovery in 2010 and a recession hit 2009.

Despite a number of challenges, China's textile and clothing industry is said to be set for further growth while its competitors suffer declines as a result of cutbacks by retail buyers, according to a recent report from the global business information company Textiles Intelligence.
