Following the recent trend towards the finishing of circular knitted fabrics in open-width format, Tirupur, India based commission dyer and finisher Sri Gayathri Colours has recently installed a Monforts Montex 6500 stenter for heat setting and finishing. The aims of the investment in the high quality German machinery were to reduce wastage and improve quality, in a knitting region which has traditionally finished circular knitted fabrics in tubular format.

SITM develops world's finest weft insertion tricot machine
French warp knitting machine engineering company Schinasi International Textile Machines (SITM) claims to have developed the world’s finest weft insertion device for a tricot machine in gauge E36 (36 needles per inch). The company which is based in Chanteloup les Vignes , a half hour train ride from central Paris, is claiming the machine as a ‘world first’, as until now the finest available gauge for weft insertion tricot machines was 32E.

Outlast to improve comfort in FR workwear
US based Outlast Technologies Inc., market leader in temperature regulating phase change materials (PCMs), and Waxman Fibres Ltd of West Yorkshire, UK, have developed a range of innovative flame retardant (FR) circular knitted fabrics where FR Protex modacrylic fibre is blended with Outlast viscose fibre, to bring new levels of comfort to FR workwear.

Inaugural lecture by Professor of Knitting
Around 70 academics, students and industrialists from the UK attended an inaugural lecture by Professor Tilak Dias, at Nottingham Trent University’s Newton Lecture Theatre at the end of February. Professor Dias holds the Chair of Knitting in the School of Art & Design at Nottingham Trent University and directs the activities of the School’s Centre for Research in Advanced Textiles (CReATe).

Christian Eschler AG may be a small family owned company but the Swiss high-tech warp and weft knitted fabric manufacturer’s last winter season was a big success. 'Comfort Mapping' to enhance next generation sportswear
Following the resounding success of breathable functional textiles for sport and leisure wear, the development of fabrics for these purposes is said to be entering a new phase. Experts at the internationally renowned textile research centre, the Hohenstein Institute in Bönnigheim, Germany, have analysed the heat and moisture management specifications for fabrics worn on different parts of the human body and in a process called ‘body mapping with comfort zones’ or simply ‘comfort mapping’, the scientists say their findings should make it possible in future to use different textile materials for different parts of a garment, so making sportswear significantly more comfortable to wear.
